Texas Basketball: 3 worst losses of 2019-20 season so far
There’s a lot of room for improvement for the Texas basketball program as they near the 20-game mark with a record of 12-7 (2-4 Big 12).
Just when it appeared that head coach Shaka Smart got his Texas basketball team rolling heading into the thick of Big 12 play and the Big 12/SEC Challenge, everything came crashing down. Texas did hang tough with two of their last three opponents, all of which were easily top 25-caliber teams. But the road loss at WVU Coliseum last week at the hands of the West Virginia Mountaineers was thoroughly embarrassing and showed that this team hadn’t taken a step forward quite yet.
In the last three games, Texas lost to the LSU Tigers (Big 12/SEC Challenge), Kansas Jayhawks, and West Virginia. Prior to head coach Bob Huggins and his Mountaineers putting a beating down on Texas, things were looking up. Texas looked to come close to upsetting the Jayhawks at home at the Frank Erwin Center, but ultimately fell short by a nine-point margin.
The final score didn’t show the true narrative of how that game went against Kansas at home. But the fact of the matter was that Texas lost. And the loss to LSU came at home at the Erwin Center by the final score of 69-67. Once again, Smart’s Texas squad couldn’t get it done in crunch time.
Up to this point, Texas holds a record of 12-7 (2-4 Big 12). They sit on a three-game losing streak sparked by a difficult blip in their schedule late in the month of January. Their last win came against the hapless Oklahoma State Cowboys on the road at Gallagher-Iba Arena on Jan. 15.
Here’s a look into the three worst losses for the Texas Longhorns basketball program as they head into the stretch run of Big 12 play this season.
