Honorable mentions

There’s two losses for the Texas basketball program so far this season that sit just on the outside looking in as to the worst of them all. You can’t put too much blame on the shoulders of this Longhorns basketball team for falling short against the nation’s No. 3 team right now, Kansas, and the No. 1 ranked Baylor Bears.

But here’s a deeper look into the two that sat just outside the top three on this list.

529. 67. 467. Final. 69

LSU knocked off Texas on Jan. 25 by just a two-point margin. Texas and LSU are two evenly matched teams that share some similarities. But LSU is more consistent entering SEC play than the Longhorns were in Big 12 play. LSU is still undefeated in conference play. Freshman forward Trendon Watford and senior guard Skylar Mays got the best of the Longhorns by a narrow two-point margin when Smart needed this win the most.

72. 464. 62. 467. Final

Falling short against the hated rival Oklahoma Sooners on the hardwood by a double-digit margin at the Erwin Center was a horrible way to mark the start of conference play. This might go down as one of the worst home Big 12 losses of the entire season when it’s all said and done.

Oklahoma head coach Lon Kruger saw his defense come up big and senior All-Big 12 forward Kristian Doolittle posted a team-high 22 points in this grind it out win for the Sooners.
