Texas Football: OU passes Longhorns for top 2020 class in Big 12
A slip up in the national rankings for the 2020 Texas football recruiting class saw them fal behind the Oklahoma Sooners 2020 class.
The rival Oklahoma Sooners just passed up the 2020 Texas football recruiting class for the top spot in the Big 12 recruiting rankings. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2020 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 11 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12. Texas held that top spot in the Big 12 2020 recruiting class rankings over the Sooners until this last set of prospect rankings were released.
The Texas Longhorns football program held a significant stake in the “Final247” rankings from 247Sports that were released on Jan. 28. But the Longhorns were actually bumped down the national class rankings in the final set of classifications and recruiting rankings for the 2020 cycle. Oklahoma was more of a benefactor than their rival Texas.
Thanks to this final rankings release, Texas was passed up by the Sooners and Michigan Wolverines in the national class rankings. Oklahoma sits in the No. 9 spot in the nation, and Michigan holds the final spot in the top 10.
And Texas is clinging onto that No. 11 spot in the national class rankings over the Oregon Ducks and Penn State Nittany Lions. The Tennessee Volunteers and Washington Huskies also sit within striking distance of the Longhorns to round out the top 15.
The hold that the Longhorns have on the second spot in the Big 12 recruiting rankings is pretty safe. To round out the top five in the Big 12 rankings, the final three teams don’t sit within realistic striking distance of the Longhorns or Sooners. The TCU Horned Frogs, West Virginia Mountaineers, and Oklahoma State Cowboys round out the top five in the Big 12.
The highest ranked signee in the 2020 Texas recruiting class up to this point is five-star Salpointe Catholic running back Bijan Robinson. He is the sole five-star commit/signee in the Longhorns 2020 recruiting class now.
Texas signed 17 players in their 2020 recruiting class so far. Less than two weeks remain until National Signing Day (which arrives on Feb. 5) and there’s a couple remaining notable targets for head coach Tom Herman. Five-star defensive end Alfred Collins and three-star cornerback Ennis Rakestraw are about the most notable targets left for the Longhorns ahead of National Signing Day.
