A former Texas football cornerback, Rod Babers, shrouded praise upon SF 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan in a recent podcast.

On a recent podcast from the Texas Longhorns 247Sports site, Horns247 (podcast specifically known as the “Longhorn Blitz), a former cornerback of this team gave high praise for a head coach that will be in the Super Bowl this weekend. Former Texas football cornerback Rod Babers is part of the “Longhorn Blitz” from 247Sports and he said earlier this week that the San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is a “damn good coach”.

That is a pretty obvious statement at this point, but the former Longhorns cornerback Babers was spot on with his words on Shanahan. Pretty much no other head coach in the NFL was able to do what Shanahan did almost out of nowhere this season. The 49ers went from the worst team in the NFC West to the top seed in the conference and making a dominant run through one side of the bracket in the NFL playoffs.

On their way to this Super Bowl appearance, where they will take on former Texas Tech Red Raiders star quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, Shanahan and the 49ers had to knock off the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings. The 49ers worked their way through nothing other than the NFC North on their road to this Super Bowl appearance.

Shanahan first started his football coaching career at the college ranks with the UCLA Bruins. He was a graduate assistant under former head coach Jim Mora Jr. with UCLA back in 2003. His coaching career then took him to the NFL, as an offensive quality control coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2004-2005.

And prior to taking the head coaching role with the 49ers two seasons ago, Shanahan was an offensive coordinator with four other teams. He was an offensive coordinator with the Atlanta Falcons, Houston Texans, Washington Redskins, and Cleveland Browns, before landing with the 49ers.

Meanwhile, Babers was a member of more than three NFL teams. But he only ever got to play in an NFL regular season game with one, the Detroit Lions. He is a former All-American cornerback for the Longhorns from the early 2000’s.
