Texas Football: 2022 W&M QB offeree Cardell Williams shines at True Buzz
A potential target of the 2022 Texas football recruiting class, Westfield QB Cardell Williams, had a nice day at the True Buzz Invitational 2020.
A target of the William & Mary Tribe 2022 recruiting class, Westfield 6-foot-1 pro-style quarterback Cardell Williams, is someone that should get a lot more national attention in due time. Williams could be a potential target of the 2022 Texas football recruiting class if he continues playing like he has with his 7-on-7 team All-EN this offseason.
Williams was mentioned among the around one-dozen quarterbacks that 247Sports had as the ones to watch at the position for the 2022 recruiting cycle. A potential four-star pro-style quarterback like Williams is one that head coach Tom Herman and the Texas Longhorns football program should start taking notice of early on.
The 2022 recruiting class might seem very far out of sight for the Longhorns, but the 2021 class is about to come to the forefront. That 2022 class is going to start racking up more and more offerees in due time. Texas has already sent out more than two dozen offers to 2022 high school prospects. Two of those more than 20 offers went to five-star Junipero Serra product Maalik Murphy and Southlake Carroll product Quinn Ewers.
But one of the more underrated prospects to watch at this point in time is Williams. He stands at 6-foot-1 and 160 pounds and is a to-be sophomore at Spring Westfield High School in Houston. The first offer that Williams received came from former Virginia Cavaliers head coach Mike London and FCS William & Mary.
Williams finished up his freshman campaign at Westfield with more than 2,800 passing yards and 30 touchdowns through the air, with just six interceptions. He took Westfield far in the Texas High School State Playoffs last year, including an appearance in the semifinals against 6A powerhouse Denton-Guyer.
Texas A&M Aggies commit and four-star Denton, TX, dual-threat quarterback Eli Stowers led Denton-Guyer to a state playoffs win over Westfield by the final score of 35-17. That ended the run that Williams led Westfield to in impressive fashion in a difficult side of the bracket.
Not only was Williams one of the better quarterbacks in the state playoffs last year, he was one of the youngest. The sophomore season for Williams should only see him improve and continue to grow his offer sheet.
In two of the first big time 7-on-7 tournaments of the college football offseason, Williams showed out with his ultra-talented team All-EN. They fell short against fellow top 20-nationally ranked 7-on-7 foe Texas Air Raid in each team’s final game of True Buzz Invitational pool play on Feb. 1. But the All-EN offense put on a show against Texas Air Raid. The Texas Air Raid offense was rather impressive too.
The All-EN team includes a number of impressive high school prospects for the 2020 7-on-7 season. Williams is the one quarterbacking it all for All-EN this year.
The offer sheet for Williams should soon include much more than just William & Mary. The Longhorns should be one of the multiple FBS college football programs looking into offering him at the moment. He’s a big time rising target that has a nice combination of arm strength and route timing for such a young quarterback.
