A big-time four-star offensive guard target of the 2021 Texas football recruiting class put the Longhorns among his finalists early this week.

The 2021 Texas football recruiting class could have the best set of offensive line commits in the nation. If the narrative holds true to how it’s going now, Texas could wind up with two of the most talented high school offensive line prospects in the entire country for the 2021 recruiting cycle with All Saints Episcopal’s Tommy Brockermeyer and Duncanville’s Savion Byrd.

But one offensive line prospect that could still be somehow flying under the radar for the Texas Longhorns football program in the 2021 recruiting class is four-star Katy-Taylor offensive guard Bryce Foster. Coming about as close as it gets to a five-star offensive guard recruit, Foster is still a big-time target for head coach Tom Herman and offensive line coach/co-offensive coordinator Herb Hand.

When Brockermeyer and Byrd are two realistic targets in the same recruiting class, it’s easy to lose sight of how important an offensive guard prospect like Foster can be. But he did still name the Longhorns among his five finalist schools that he released on Feb. 3.

The Longhorns were one of the five finalist schools for Foster alongside the likes of the Oregon Ducks, Oklahoma Sooners, Texas A&M Aggies, and the LSU Tigers. That is good company for the Longhorns to find themselves in along with the reigning National Champions and the other blue blood program in the Big 12.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions do hold it that Texas A&M is the current favorite to land the commitment of Foster. Of the four expert Crystal Ball Predictions in, two go to the Aggies, and then one each to the Longhorns and Sooners. The Rivals FutureCast also favors Texas A&M to land the commitment of Foster over Texas and Oklahoma.

Moreover, Foster ranks as the nation’s No. 68 2021 high school prospect and the No. 2 offensive guard. The 6-foot-4.5 and 318 pound Katy, TX, native also ranks as the No. 11 high school prospect out of the state of Texas.

Foster just picked up his offer from Oklahoma on Feb. 1. The last major event on his recruiting timeline was a Junior Day visit with head coach Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M the day after, on Feb. 2 (Super Bowl Sunday watch party in College Station).

Some of the more significant schools that Foster cut on his way to naming his five finalists included the Florida Gators, Auburn Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, Florida State Seminoles, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oklahoma State Cowboys, TCU Horned Frogs, and Wisconsin Badgers.

Texas should be happy with where they stand in the pursuit of Foster’s commitment after his most recent finalist school cut.
