Texas Football: 4-Star Horns QB offeree Malik Hornsby leaning Arkansas?
A once big target of the 2020 Texas football recruiting class, 4-Star QB Malik Hornsby, could now be taking his talents to the Arkansas program.
The 2020 Texas football recruiting class will be putting their finishing touches on their last set of signees in these next 24 hours, ahead of National Signing Day on Feb. 5. Quarterback is one of the positions set for head coach Tom Herman heading into National Signing Day, though.
One of the more important commitments to watch on National Signing that has little likelihood to go the way of the Texas Longhorns football program is the four-star Fort Bend Marshall dual-threat quarterback prospect Malik Hornsby. Texas did send a scholarship offer to Hornsby, but their 2020 recruiting class is already full at the position.
It would just be overkill for the Longhorns to take on a third quarterback in their 2020 recruiting class. Talk about forcing other quarterbacks into the NCAA Transfer Portal in future offseasons. But it is worth following where Hornsby commits to on National Signing Day 2020.
By now, there is an emerging favorite it seems to land the commitment of Hornsby. The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions have 80 percent of their experts slotting him with the Arkansas Razorbacks out in the SEC West. Other programs to watch in contention to land Hornsby’s commitment includes the Texas A&M Aggies, Baylor Bears, North Carolina Tar Heels, and Georgia Bulldogs.
The last three official visits that Hornsby took came with Texas A&M, Baylor, and Arkansas. While Georgia and North Carolina could still be in the running to land the nation’s No. 200 2020 high school prospect and the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback, those three aforementioned Big 12 and SEC programs should be the overarching favorites on Feb. 5.
Other significant programs that offered Hornsby that he cut from contention to land his commitment includes the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, Oregon Ducks, Tennessee Volunteers, and Virginia Tech Hokies. Hornsby had a number of blue bloods send him a scholarship offer this cycle.
But he could be the next highly touted quarterback to try and bring that Arkansas program out of the ashes in the post-head coach Chad Morris-era in Fayettevile. Arkansas was down for a few years now since the better days under former head coach Bret Bielema.
Hornsby could be the future of the Hogs while the former Florida Gators transfer quarterback Feleipe Franks come out of the transfer portal to command the now. That could be a good opportunity for him to learn under a capable dual-threat quarterback in the SEC if he winds up taking his talents to Fayetteville on National Signing Day.
