Texas Football: Longhorns finish with top 10 class for third straight year
The 2020 Texas football recruiting class finished off with a bang, and landed the Longhorns in a good spot in the national rankings yet again.
Finishing up with a solid National Signing Day on Feb. 5, the 2020 Texas football recruiting class achieved something huge under head coach Tom Herman yet again. Texas wrapped up a recruiting cycle with a top 10 ranked class in the nation for the third straight year. But the two cycles previous, Texas did finish up with a top three ranked recruiting class in the nation.
According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the Texas Longhorns football program locked up the nation’s No. 9 2020 recruiting class and the top group in the Big 12. Texas ranked two spots ahead of the rival Oklahoma Sooners in the national class rankings. The third best 2020 recruiting class in the Big 12 ranked well behind Oklahoma and Texas.
The TCU Horned Frogs did have a decently big National Signing Day haul and finished with the third highest ranked 2020 recruiting class in the Big 12. And the in-state rival Texas A&M Aggies finished ahead of the Longhorns with the No. 6 ranked 2020 class.
However, the Longhorns hauled in one five-star recruit and 14 four-star recruits to compile quite the quality 2020 signing class. They were the only 2020 recruiting class in the nation to finish in the top 10 with less than 20 signees too.
The Longhorns only ranked behind the top four 2020 recruiting classes in the nation in terms of average commit ranking.
The top five 2020 classes in order were the Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, Clemson Tigers, reigning National Champion LSU Tigers, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Texas did have a higher average commitment ranking than head coach Ryan Day and the Buckeyes, though.
Five-star Salpointe Catholic running back Bijan Robinson was the highest ranked signee in this class. He was also the sole five-star signee for the Longhorns. Robinson was the top ranked running back in the nation after he was bumped up past five-star North Shore product Zachary Evans in the Final247.
Two National Signing Day commitments, four-star Cedar Creek strong-side defensive end Alfred Collins and four-star Carthage athlete Kelvontay Dixon, solidified the Longhorns spot in the top 10. Those two commits/signees pushed the Longhorns to 19 total in the 2020 class.
Eight of the 19 commits enrolled early. The highest ranked early enrollee is four-star Lake Travis dual-threat quarterback Hudson Card. The rest have signed their National Letter of Intent and will look to enroll ahead of summer workouts.
