Is former Texas football superstar quarterback Vince Young right about the college game being more fun for fans and players than the NFL?

Maybe the best quarterback to ever play for the Texas football program, and the last to win a national title here, Vince Young had an up and down journey to say the very least since his NFL career ended.

The former legend of the Texas Longhorns football program VY didn’t have the best run in the NFL. The transition for him from college to the NFL was anything but smooth. From getting booed by his own fans when he was with the Tennessee Titans to overshooting hype and expectations as a backup with the Philadelphia Eagles, there are a couple instances worth forgetting for Young.

But VY recently opened on the discrepancies he feels exist between the level of entertainment and excitement between the college game and the NFL. Unsurprisingly, he didn’t look to be in favor of the NFL over college football.

There was a deep dive on what happened to VY’s professional football career by The Players Tribune that published earlier this week. This was a very good article that built a timeline from when Young was just starting his football career and how the relationship with his family led to success up through his collegiate stint at Texas all the way through the end of his NFL run.

Here’s what the article had to say specifically on VY and his time in and opinion on the NFL.

"The NFL, it’s not fun in the same way that playing with your boys in high school is fun. It’s not fun the same way college is fun. It’s not the playground anymore. Maybe it’s not supposed to be. Fact is, I had a hard time finding the same joy in the game when I got to the NFL.And just as a human being, I never really saw the game the same way after Pops died in 2009. What people don’t understand is that I didn’t just lose a mentor or a friend. I lost a father. Heroes are not supposed to die. And I still miss the s*** out of you to this day, Pops. That’s a hole that’s never going to go away."

Do you agree with Young?

The conversation between the NFL and college regarding which one is better is always very open-ended and interesting.

The NFL game doesn’t have that same loyalty tied to it that a lot of fans do with their favorite college football teams. It it a different type of feeling getting to tailgate on Saturdays than it does for your favorite NFL team on Sundays.

But there is the same argument that exists that favors the NFL that fandom ties back to local teams. And the NFL has that obvious argument that the talent is better than it is in college, and has been for a long time now.

VY added an interesting take to this debate in a piece that offered a lot of good insight into the development of his football career through the end of his run in the NFL.
