2. Floor spacing if the outside shooting rebounds

Possibly the biggest letdown for the Texas basketball program in the loss to Kansas on Feb. 3 was the outside shooting. Keeping pace with that electric Kansas offense can be a difficult feat, but Texas Tech is playing more up and down of late. Knowing which Texas Tech team is going to show up is a difficult feat.

For a while there, neither Texas nor Kansas was shooting very well. Kansas couldn’t get it going at home at Allen Fieldhouse in the first half. But the Longhorns couldn’t take advantage when it came down to it down the stretch. Texas shot a measly 4-of-24 from three-point range in the loss to Kansas.

There were only three Longhorns to make a three-pointer against the Jayhawks. Coleman went 2-of-7 shooting from three-point land and small forward Jase Febres went 1-of-4. Senior shooting guard Andrew Jones shot 1-of-3 from beyond the arc too. But Jones and Febres tend to be streaky shooters that can bounce back at any moment.

If Texas can get their groove back from beyond the arc, then this could be a long day ahead for the Texas Tech defense. Texas does rank among the top four teams in the Big 12 this season, shooting around 35 percent from range. So this is a trend that shouldn’t stick, especially against a team like Texas Tech that is allowing opponents to shoot around 42 percent from the field this season (fifth in the Big 12).
