1. Flipping Troy Omeire from Texas A&M

Wide receiver wasn’t the deepest position in the 2020 Texas football recruiting class. Once Herman and the Longhorns lost out on the commitment of four-star Temple wide receiver Quentin Johnston, the situation became dire to retain any other commits they had at the position before the Early Signing Period arrived.

Johnston flipped from Texas to join head coach Gary Patterson and the TCU Horned Frogs just before the start of the Early Signing Period. He ranked as a top 100 2020 high school prospect in the nation and one of the 15 best at his position. Johnston was also the biggest bodied wide receiver in the Longhorns 2020 recruiting class.

It goes without saying that the Longhorns needed to do whatever they could either to retain their other wide receiver commits or find another answer among the uncommitted high school prospects. That made the importance of keeping the commitment of four-star Fort Bend Austin 6-foot-3.5 and 205 pound wideout Troy Omeire paramount.

Omeire ranks as the nation’s No. 239 2020 high school prospect and the No. 42 wide receiver. Texas was able to flip him from the in-state rival Texas A&M Aggies last year, and signed him down to his National Letter of Intent during the first day of the Early Signing Period. Omeire could also benefit from reps in spring camp as he is one of the eight early enrollees for the Longhorns.
