Potentially the biggest threat among the former Texas football players that are eligible to be selected in the 2020 NFL Draft to go in the first round is Johnson. The towering 6-foot-6 and 220 pound stud wideout is exactly what a lot of NFL teams will be looking for out of a sizable outside passing game target.

For the last three years, Johnson was one of the top targets in the passing game for star quarterback Sam Ehlinger. He finished up his senior season with 38 catches for 559 receiving yards and three touchdowns. That was a step down from his brilliant junior season, where he tallied up just shy of 1,000 receiving yards.

However, Johnson was still solid in the games that he did play in. He averaged around 85 receiving yards per game and 0.5 touchdowns. He also started to prove that he can be more of a down-field target in the passing game. Johnson registered a career-best 14.7 yards per catch, despite having more speedy receivers in the offense like Duvernay and freshman Jake Smith.

What Johnson needs to prove throughout the draft scouting process, despite the obvious of staying healthy and looking more explosive, is speedier breaks in and out of routes and continued solid hands on 50/50 jump balls. Johnson won’t get much more of a chance to show off what he can do in a game situation, but he proved a lot of his worth during showcase week and the Senior Bowl game.
