2. Microwave scoring off the bench

Texas Tech saw the full impact that this Texas basketball team can get from shooting guard Andrew Jones off the bench when he’s hot. Jones was the Longhorns leading scorer in the loss to the Red Raiders. He finished up with a team-high 18 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field and 3-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc.

Jones added three rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block to his solid night in an unfortunate five-point defeat. The only downside to his outing was the five turnovers he had. Positing 0.2 assists per turnover is never a good mark for any guard. But his scoring spark off the bench was still much needed.

Texas needs their bench to come up big again when they take on a deep Baylor team that is very challenging to deal with, especially in the backcourt. The trio that is Jones, junior guard Matt Coleman, and sophomore Courtney Ramey night encompass the most crucial three players if Texas is to put Baylor on upset alert.

The good news is that Coleman was solid for the Longhorns on both ends of the floor against Texas Tech. The Longhorns should have Coleman and Jones rolling into this showdown with a lot of confidence considering they combined for 35 points against Tech. Another big night would be huge for this entire Texas team.
