Texas Football: 3 possible skill position changes to watch for Longhorns
What skill position changes among the younger players could have the biggest impact on the Texas football program come the start of spring camp?
Spring camp is soon to get underway for the Texas football program, and there’s a lot of notable storylines to follow. Position changes can always be a notable part of how the Texas coaching staff will piece this team together in spring camp.
Texas has a lot of potential position changes to watch heading into spring camp, especially on the offensive side of the ball. There is more player turnover among the starters on offense for the 2020 offseason than there is on defense. Really the only key starters that Texas is losing on the defensive side of the ball heading into the 2020 offseason are defensive end Malcolm Roach, safety Brandon Jones, and linebacker Jeffrey McCulloch.
Other losses among more experienced former Texas defenders like senior defensive tackles Gerald Wilbon and D’Andre Christmas-Giles to the NCAA Transfer Portal won’t be as hard to replace in terms of production. The defensive line does still get thinner thanks to the losses of Christmas-Giles, Wilbon, and Roach, but it’s not as bad as some position groups on the other side of the ball.
However, not all the position changes that you will see considered for Texas this year will come from the more experienced players just looking for more time on the field. Most of it will stem from all the position changes that head coach Tom Herman and former offensive coordinator Tim Beck did over the course of the last year and a half.
The only position changes that I’m referring to on this list will come from the skill positions.
Here’s a look into the three skill position changes that could happen for the Texas Longhorns football program worth watching heading into spring ball.
