Texas Football: 3 possible skill position changes to watch for Longhorns
1. Brayden Liebrock, Redshirt Freshman
Current Position: Tight End
Potential Change: Wide Receiver
This idea for a position switch for a former four-star tight end recruit and Arizona native as part of the 2019 Texas football recruiting class is mostly conjecture than any proven rumors or conversation. But to-be redshirt freshman tight end Brayden Liebrock would be a good fit for the Longhorns at wide receiver.
As far back as Liebrock could be on the depth chart even during his second year on the Forty Acres could prompt the idea of him switching positions to get on the field more often. Liebrock does have enough speed and a good enough route running ability to make an impact as an outside receiver.
The 6-foot-4 and 230 pound Chandler, AZ, native did put on a lot of size since arriving in Austin last year. But Texas has a lot of big-bodied wide receivers. One of them already transitioned from tight end to wide receiver, with to-be redshirt sophomore former four-star tight end recruit Malcolm Epps switching last year.
Liebrock originally ranked as the nation’s No. 169 2019 high school prospect and the No. 5 tight end. He was one of the early establishments of the recruiting pipeline that Texas had in the state of Arizona of sorts. Five-star Salpointe Catholic 2020 running back signee Bijan Robinson is also an Arizona native.
