4. Jerrod Heard, Wide Receiver

Team: Dallas Renegades

Definitely the most exciting former Texas football player to compete in the inaugural weekend of the XFL was ex-starting quarterback/wide receiver Jerrod Heard. The former Longhorn versatile athlete Heard didn’t get a huge role on Stoops’ Renegades offense in the opening weekend, though.

Heard was targeted four times against the Battlehawks, but had just one catch for 10 yards. He was also on punt return duties for the Renegades, where he was only able to return one of his catches on special teams.

The worst part about the opening game for Heard in the XFL was the final pass that went his way, that was intercepted to put the game away in the second half.

3. Kent Perkins, Offensive Tackle

Team: St. Louis Battlehawks

The Battlehawks got off to a brilliant start to their 2020 XFL season. They had to take on the odds on favorite to win the league this year in the Renegades on the road. What the Battlehawks were able to do was lock down on Stoops’ Renegades offense completely and never really waiver. St. Louis only gave up nine points in their six-point victory.

However, former Texas offensive tackle Kent Perkins put together a good initial outing with the Battlehawks as they won the battle in the trenches through and through. Running backs Matt Jones and Keith Ford combined for more than 100 yards on the ground and one touchdown. They also averaged around five yards per carry between the two of them.

Perkins also helped the Battlehawks offensive line to keep starting quarterback Jordan Ta’amu clean. He was only sacked twice on the day.
