Texas Football: 5 best former Longhorns in the NFL in 2020
Honorable Mentions
A top 10 list might be more appropriate to give the proper credit to all former Texas football players currently competing in the NFL. But there’s a few that need to get on the honorable mention part of the list that came so close to getting in the top five. There’s a lot of standouts that are good but not Pro Bowl and/or All-Pro level at the moment.
Connor Williams (Offensive Tackle), Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys have one very notable former Longhorn that should be getting more starts in the trenches for them moving forward. Former Texas All-American offensive lineman Connor Williams got 11 starts with the Cowboys during the 2019 season, and posted an approximate value rating of five. That’s very solid for only starting 11 games last season.
Kenny Vaccaro (Safety), Tennessee Titans
The playoff run that former Texas star safety Kenny Vaccaro made with the Cinderella Tennessee Titans in the AFC this season nearly vaulted him into the top five. But the safety that has nearly a decade-long career going in the NFL posted one interception, one sacks, and 47 solo tackles during the 2019 season.
Quandre Diggs (Cornerback), Seattle Seahawks
A significant trade that somehow flew under-the-radar last year involved the Detroit Lions sending former Texas stud cornerback Quandre Diggs to the Seattle Seahawks for what seemed like next to nothing (a late round draft pick). Diggs was stout for the Seahawks in 2019, and posting an approximate value rating of five to go along with three picks.
Marquise Goodwin (Wide Receiver), San Francisco 49ers
Although his team played in the Super Bowl to cap the 2019 NFL season, speedy wide receiver Marquise Goodwin only played in nine games. He racked up less than 200 receiving yards and an approximate value rating of just two. Watch out for Goodwin to rebound if he’s healthier in 2020.
