Texas Football: 5 best former Longhorns in the NFL in 2020
The New Orleans Saints once again fell short of their ultimate goal to cap the 2019 season. They saw their journey fall short against quarterback Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Wild Card Round. This was one of the more disappointing ends to any season for the Saints under the direction of head coach Sean Payton in recent memory.
However, former Texas football defensive tackle Malcom Brown was stout for the Saints despite the poor ending to the 2019 campaign. Brown anchored the Saints defensive line last season while racking up 34 combined tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks, one pass deflection, one fumble recovery, and five quarterback hits.
All that amounted to a very good approximate value rating of seven.
Brown also registered one of the lowest missed tackle rates of his career, at lower than six percent. He missed just two tackles total on the season, and had four additional quarterback hurries. When given the chance, Brown was about as sure of a tackler as they come at the defensive tackle position in the NFL.
In his one playoff game with the Saints last season, Brown added to a nice career postseason stat line. He now has 35 combined tackles, 1.5 sacks, two tackles for loss, and two quarterback hits in his postseason career between the Saints and the Patriots. If Brown gets on the field for more snaps next season, he could see his numbers take an even bigger jump. He was on the field for just 46 percent of the Saints total defensive snaps in 2019.
