The most consequential injury that the Texas football program looks to undergo at this point throughout spring camp could actually be Adeoye. A young linebacker like Adeoye needs the practice reps in spring camp, but losing out on the services of to-be junior safety/nickelback and former five-star recruit B.J. Foster can hurt this entire side of the ball.

Foster’s talents are something that other defensive backs and linebackers can learn from. His instincts and flat out speed in pursuit of the ball carrier are hard to teach. But the surrounding defenders for the Longhorns can learn by example. Texas just won’t get the chance to show their other players on this side of the ball what Foster can do in spring ball since he’ll miss reps thanks to a shoulder surgery he needed from an injury suffered during the 2019 season.

However, Foster is coming off of a solid sophomore campaign where he registered 35 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, one interception, and one pass deflection. Since Foster only played in nine of 13 games last season, he didn’t get to post the same total production that he did during his true freshman campaign.

Getting a nickelback/safety trio that consists of three former five-star recruits in Foster, to-be junior Caden Sterns, and redshirt freshman Tyler Owens could be special. But the projected starters at safety and nickelback should be either Josh Thompson or Chris Brown along with Sterns and Foster.
