It looks like a great move now for the 2020 Texas football recruiting class to have landed 5-Star RB Bijan Robinson instead of Zachary Evans.

The highest rated signee in the 2020 Texas football recruiting class as of the “Final247” was five-star Salpointe Catholic running back Bijan Robinson. Thanks to an adjustment in the 247Sports final release of the 2020 recruiting rankings, Robinson moved into the top spot for running back prospects over fellow five-star rusher Zachary Evans. Up to this point, the North Shore product Evans has yet to commit anywhere, more than one week past National Signing Day.

The Texas Longhorns football program had the Tucson, AZ, native Robinson committed and inked the National Letter of Intent for him by the first day of the Early Signing Period last December. He ranks as the nation’s No. 15 2020 high school prospect, and the second best recruit out of Arizona. The only prospect out of Arizona that ranked higher than Robinson was fellow Texas target and five-star Saguaro cornerback Kelee Ringo. A top five ranked unanimous prospect in the nation, Ringo committed to and signed with the Georgia Bulldogs.

Texas landed a top 10 ranked 2020 recruiting class in the nation once Feb. 5 (National Signing Day) passed (per 247Sports Team Composite Rankings). More specifically, the Longhorns landed the No. 9 ranked 2020 signing class in the nation and the top group in the Big 12 over the rival Oklahoma Sooners.

However, one factor that pushed head coach Tom Herman and the Longhorns to get a top 10 ranked class in the nation for the third straight year was landing and signing Robinson. The 6-foot and 200 pound stud running back continued the solid recruiting pipeline that Texas is establishing in the state of Arizona.

Texas could see an immediate impact this year with the addition of Robinson to the running back room. He should standout alongside to-be junior rusher Keaontay Ingram over the next two years. If former four-star recruit and Buford, GA, native Derrian Brown gets back healthy this year, Texas could have a very potent three-headed monster at the running back position.

Herman and the Longhorns look like they wound up making the right move landing Robinson over the other top ranked running back prospect in the nation right now, though. Evans is likely to land in the SEC, with programs like the Texas A&M Aggies and Ole Miss Rebels trying to land his commitment post-National Signing Day.

Evans originally cut the Longhorns from his list of five finalist schools last fall. But he didn’t stick with a lot of those schools he originally named in his top five. He appeared to be committed and signed with head coach Kirby Smart and Georgia, but later got a release from his letter of intent.

Dropping down in the rankings to the nation’s No. 2 ranked running back prospect and the No. 16 recruit overall, Evans saw a slight drop in his stock over the last two or three months despite his insane level of raw talent. He even missed a couple games due to non-injury reasons with North Shore during his senior season of high school football.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions have Georgia and Texas A&M in the lead to still land the commitment of Evans. But a lot of those expert Crystal Ball Predictions that had Evans landing with the Dawgs are outdated. Most of the expert predictions are still undecided above anything else.
