A young but talented quarterback room for the Texas football program stacks up nicely behind senior Sam Ehlinger for the 2020 offseason.

A good bout in spring camp for the Texas football program could make a huge difference this year given all the coaching staff turnover under head coach Tom Herman heading into the offseason. Spring ball will be the first time that all these new faces along the Texas coaching staff will get to implement their schemes and ideals on this team.

One of the position groups that could be impacted quite a bit by all the coaching turnover is the quarterback room. The Texas quarterbacks need to be vocal leaders with this team in 2020. It all starts with senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger, who will be the go-to leader for Texas this fall.

However, the responsibility of shouldering the load on offense is going to go beyond Ehlinger if Texas wants to find more success in the Big 12 than it did last year. Ehlinger was stout for Texas throughout much of the 2019 campaign, but he wasn’t as consistent as he was during his breakout sophomore season.

Texas will be bringing in a talented duo of quarterbacks from the 2020 recruiting class. That will slot alongside to-be redshirt sophomore former four-star dual-threat quarterback recruit Casey Thompson to round out the depth chart at this position.

Quarterback might be one of the deeper and more promising position groups for Texas on either side of the ball this year.

Here’s a look into how the quarterback room stacks up for the Texas Longhorns football program heading into spring camp next month.
