Running backs

Kyle Porter (Houston)

The former four-star recruit and a brief starter at running back for the Texas football program, Kyle Porter, landed with former West Virginia Mountaineers head coach Dana Holgorsen and the Houston Cougars last offseason. Porter was decent during his first year at Houston. He totaled 743 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns during the 2019 campaign.

Porter will have one more year of eligibility left at Houston and he was serviceable for them last year.

Toneil Carter (Sam Houston State)

Potentially the most surprising holdout for the Longhorns in 2018 was the talented former four-star running back recruit Toneil Carter. After he showed flashes in splitting time with fellow former four-star running back recruit Daniel Young during their freshman season in 2017, Carter didn’t get any playing time in 2018.

Carter took his talents to the FCS Sam Houston State Bearcats last offseason. Playing time dwindled for Carter as his season moved along. He totaled 168 yards from scrimmage and four scores last season with Sam Houston State.

Tristian Houston (Southwestern Oklahoma State)

The last running back to transfer from Texas last offseason was the former three-star recruit Tristian Houston. But it wasn’t hard for him to outdo at SWOSU what Carter did in his first season with Sam Houston State. He wasn’t quite able to do so, though, totaling less than 175 yards from scrimmage with three scores.
