Texas football keeps piling up the hires for their coaching staff prior to the start of spring ball, this time with ex-NC State DC Dave Huxtable.

The coaching hires continued for the Texas football program on Feb. 17, with the reported addition of the former NC State Wolfpack defensive coordinator Dave Huxtable on Monday afternoon. This came in the same week as head coach Tom Herman adding former Texas State Bobcats head coach and New York Giants defensive backs coach Everett Withers as an offensive analyst.

This report about Huxtable getting added as an analyst to the coaching staff of the Texas Longhorns football program first came from Horns247.

Texas will hire Huxtable to be a defensive analyst, while they brought Withers aboard as an offensive analyst. They needed to replace two key analysts from the 2019 coaching staff, as Larry Fedora is off to be the Baylor Bears next offensive coordinator and Andre Coleman was promoted to be the next Texas wide receivers coach.

Coleman is replacing the two departed Texas wide receivers coaches from last year’s staff, including Drew Mehringer (now with the Florida Atlantic Owls) and Corby Meekins (now with the Houston Cougars). Fedora joins a brand new-look coaching staff under former LSU Tigers defensive coordinator Dave Aranda with the Baylor program.

Moreover, Huxtable should be a natural fit as defensive analyst with this staff. He was already on staff under newly hired Texas defensive coordinator Chris Ash back in 2011 with the Wisconsin Badgers. Huxtable was the Wisconsin linebackers coach in 2011.

Huxtable played his college ball back in the late 1970’s with FCS Eastern Illinois. He started his college football coaching career with the Iowa State Cyclones as a graduate assistant way back in 1982. Since that point, he served most of his coaching career as a defensive assistant/positional coach with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, East Carolina Pirates, North Carolina Tar Heels, UCF Knights, and NC State.

The last position that Huxtable held the defensive coordinator/linebackers coach position with the Wolfpack under head coach Dave Doeren from 2013-2019. He was relieved of his role as the NC State defensive coordinator last year after his side of the ball ranked No. 79 in the nation in efficiency (per ESPN).

The only other coaching job that Huxtable held with a Big 12 program up to this point was linebackers coach/special teams coordinator with the Oklahoma State Cowboys way back in 2000, under former head coach Bob Simmons. He was also the defensive coordinator for the Pitt Panthers in 2012. That was his last coaching position prior to taking the NC State job in the same role.

Texas finished up their 2019 season with a record of 8-5 (5-4 Big 12) after beating the Utah Utes in the Alamo Bowl by the final score of 38-10. They will have the chance to get their latest addition to the coaching staff onto the Forty Acres prior to the start of spring camp.
