Texas Football: 2022 RB target has Horns with UGA, LSU among finalists
A big initial get for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class could be this rising talent, Klein Cain running back Jaydon Blue.
The 2022 Texas football recruiting class hasn’t landed its first commitment yet. But there’s more than ample time and opportunity for head coach Tom Herman to add to his 2022 recruiting class over the next year and a half or so. Texas landed their third straight top 10 ranked recruiting class in the nation with their 2020 group at National Signing Day back on Feb. 5. That should continue to inspire confidence in Herman’s recruiting ability.
One early lead that the Texas Longhorns football program could have to add to their 2022 recruiting class is with the talented 5-foot-9 and 192 Klein Cain running back Jaydon Blue. This Houston, TX, native included the Longhorns among his list of three finalist schools that had two other blue blood college football programs.
The other two schools that Blue included among his three finalists were the Georgia Bulldogs and reigning National Champion LSU Tigers. Texas is the only finalist holding his interests in-state and/or in the Big 12. Significant schools that did send a scholarship offer that he cut in this finalist decision included the Arkansas Razorbacks, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and TCU Horned Frogs.
Mississippi State was the latest school to send Blue an offer, which came on Jan. 28. He is sure to receive more scholarship offers in the near future, but this announcement of his three finalist programs entering the 2020 offseason might cut down on the overall amount that he gets before committing somewhere.
Blue is already taking a number of visits, including one with the in-state Longhorns rival Texas A&M Aggies last month. But that visit came with his offseason 7-on-7 football team Houston FAST. Blue is a part of one of the better 7-on-7 teams in the entire country. Houston FAST actually took home the tourney title in the Chicago Pylon 7-on-7 last weekend.
Moreover, Blue was a stud during his testing at the Rivals National Combine held back in early January. He timed out at around 4.6-seconds for the 40-yard dash, 4.31 on the shuttle drill, and 7.6 seconds in the L-Cone drill.
The report that Texas is in the top three came from a piece that was published with a Q&A with Blue from Horns247. That written piece was split between his performance with Houston FAST at the Chicago Pylon 7v7 last weekend, and where Texas sat among his three finalist schools.
Landing Blue would be an enormous initial get for the Longhorns in their 2022 recruiting class. Running back might be a thin position group in the 2021 recruiting class since they did so well to land the nation’s top rated 2020 prospect at the position, Salpointe Catholic’s Bijan Robinson, in this past signing class.
