Adding a second quarterback to the 2021 Texas football recruiting class after hiring OC Mike Yurcich could involve one of the three prospects listed here.

If the 2021 Texas football recruiting class wants to add a second quarterback to this group, where should they look? Texas looked to be mostly settled at the quarterback position since they signed two in the 2020 recruiting class and already have one on campus that is fairly young and talented. To-be redshirt sophomore quarterback Casey Thompson could very well win the starting job once the tenure of senior star Sam Ehlinger is done on the Forty Acres.

Even a potential position change from sophomore Roschon Johnson back to his original spot coming out of high school could add young talent and depth to the quarterback room. Roschon was switched to running back from quarterback last offseason by head coach Tom Herman. That switch paid off big time but there should be a trio of running backs coming back for Texas in 2020 that can shoulder the load.

Between Roschon and Casey, the quarterback room already has two capable and skilled dual-threat quarterbacks that have played under Herman for a combined three years. Texas even added two talented four-star dual-threat signal callers in the 2020 recruiting class between Lake Travis’ Hudson Card and Duncanville’s Ja’Quinden Jackson.

What is likely to cause Texas to take a second quarterback in their 2021 recruiting class is all the shuffling of the coaching staff that Herman pulled off in the last couple months. Former Ohio State Buckeyes passing game coordinator and Oklahoma State Cowboys offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich could bring a lot different scheme and play calling style to the table than his predecessor Tim Beck. With that, Texas has already sent out a few offers to quarterbacks more associated with Yurcich’s style of offense.

Here’s a look into the best options available if the Texas Longhorns football program is to take a second quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class.
