Four-star John Ehret safety Kaine Williams expanded his list of finalist schools, but it still included the 2021 Texas football recruiting class.

Breakthroughs for the 2021 and 2022 Texas football recruiting classes continue to take hold in the thick of the 2020 offseason. After Texas landed in the top three finalist schools for 2022 Klein Cain running backs Jaydon Blue, the 2021 recruiting class received some good news. Blue put Texas in his top three finalist schools, which also included former head coach Mack Brown and the North Carolina Tar Heels and the defending National Champion LSU Tigers.

This time around, the key target for the Texas Longhorns football program in either the 2021 or 2022 recruiting class that included them among the finalist schools was four-star Louisiana native safety Kaine Williams. This 6-foot-2.5 and 205 pound Marrero, LA, native had eight finalist schools for which Texas was a part of.

Originally, Williams had announced a top six list of finalist schools. He recently added two more, and didn’t subtract any of the original six.

The other seven schools that Williams considered finalists were the Alabama Crimson Tide, Oklahoma Sooners, Texas A&M Aggies, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, and LSU. He cut around one-third of the two-dozen schools that sent him an offer so far.

Between the finalist schools that Texas was in the midst of for Williams and Blue both, only the Longhorns and LSU were commonalities. Texas recently rounded out a very solid 2020 signing class, and LSU will have a lot of momentum on the recruiting trail following their national title.

However, the more significant schools that offered Williams that he cut this round included the Auburn Tigers, Miami Hurricanes, Ole Miss Rebels, Tennessee Volunteers, Arkansas Razorbacks, SMU Mustangs, and Virginia Cavaliers. There was a surprisingly large group of ACC schools that offered Williams, but only one made it among his finalists.

This John Ehret product ranks as the nation’s No. 95 2021 high school prospect and the No. 4 safety. He also ranks as a top five prospect out of the state of Louisiana. The 247Sports recruiting rankings alone hold Williams out as a top three prospect at his position.

The sole expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction in for Williams at this point goes to LSU. Considering he’s still shifting around his finalist schools, there should be a lot of wiggle room for the Longhorns to make progress in recruiting him this offseason.
