The embarrassment of riches continues to roll in for the Blue Devils this cycle. One of their latest big time gets was five-star Whitney Young combo guard DJ Steward. The Chicago, IL, native was a pretty high priority for the 2020 Texas basketball recruiting class for quite a while.

Smart had numerous coach visits with this top 30 ranked 2020 high school prospect in the nation Steward. But there were programs set from coast-to-coast trying to win him over. More specifically, Steward ranks as the No. 24 2020 high school prospect in the nation and the No. 5 combo guard. He also ranks as the top prospect out of Illinois, which is usually a pretty deep talent pool out of that state.

The Longhorns could really use a skilled combo guard that could usher this program into the new generation of hoops talent on the Forty Acres as Courtney Ramey and Matt Coleman won’t be around for too much longer once this incoming class arrives.

This 6-foot-3 and 165 pound standout combo guard should be able to make an immediate impact for Duke, and will be sorely missed on the Forty Acres.

Steward also held offers from the Arizona Wildcats, Arkansas Razorbacks, Iowa Hawkeyes, Iowa State Cyclones, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and NC State Wolfpack. But the last official visit that Steward took before committing and signing with Duke was with the Longhorns, back on Sep. 6 of last year.
