Big 12 Football: Ranking best returning QB’s alongside Sam Ehlinger
Since the Longhorns return so much production on both sides of the ball in 2020, they could be a true contender to make some noise on the road to the Big 12 Championship Game. Ehlinger will be looking to take Texas to the Big 12 Championship Game for the second time in three seasons. But he also will be looking to take them to new heights, including a potential Heisman finalist selection and spot in the College Football Playoff.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves for what Ehlinger could do for the Longhorns this fall. According to the SP+ ratings from Bill Connelly of ESPN, the Longhorns rank among the top 25 teams in the nation in terms of returning production in 2020. Getting the likes of to-be junior running back Keaontay Ingram and a trio of young and potent wide receivers back this fall, Texas has a lot of skill position weapons around Ehlinger this year.
What Ehlinger returns production-wise is 3,663 passing yards and 39 total touchdowns, with just 10 interceptions. For his career now, Ehlinger has racked up 8,870 passing yards and 68 touchdown passes compared to 22 interceptions. He’s added 1,641 rushing and receiving yards combined with 26 touchdowns.
More specifically, Ehlinger brings back one of the best passer efficiency ratings in the entire country with him. He’s bolstering a passer efficiency rating of around 152 with him to go with a 65.2 percent completion rate and 8.5 adjusted passing yards per attempt. The total production combined with the efficiency of the Texas offense with Ehlinger behind center makes him a very potent Big 12 quarterback for the 2020 college football season.
