Texas Football: 4-Star A&M OT target names Longhorns in top schools
The 2021 Texas football recruiting class had yet another offensive line target name them among his finalist schools on Feb. 23.
The top nine finalist schools were released for a key target of the 2021 Texas football recruiting class, four-star Foster offensive tackle Reuben Fatheree, over the weekend. Texas was part of a decently long list of schools that are all vying for the services of Fatheree after he cut his latest round of offers.
At this point, the Texas Longhorns football program is part of more than two-dozen schools on Fatheree’s lengthy offer sheet. He has 27 offers as of Feb. 24, but that number could start to dwindle since his latest round of offer cuts.
Fatheree’s finalists were announced on his Twitter timeline on Feb. 23. He provided some of the more significant recruiting news that the Longhorns received over the weekend. But Texas will have a long way to go before they can really consider themselves a front runner to land his commitment.
The other eight schools that were included among the list of finalists for Fatheree included the Ohio State Buckeyes, Texas A&M Aggies, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Baylor Bears, Oklahoma Sooners, LSU Tigers, and Texas Tech Red Raiders. His finalists are coming from all over the Big Ten, Big 12, and SEC.
The highlights of the offers that he cut before naming his nine finalist schools includes the Alabama Crimson Tide, Arkansas Razorbacks, Georgia Bulldogs, Florida State Seminoles, Michigan Wolverines, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oregon Ducks, TCU Horned Frogs, and USC Trojans. Pretty much every Power Five Conference had a stake in the recruitment of Fatheree.
Coming out of Richmond, TX, Fatheree ranks as the nation’s No. 117 2021 high school prospect and the No. 15 offensive tackle. He also ranks as the No. 19 prospect out of the state of Texas. His 247Sports recruiting profile compares him to that of former Notre Dame offensive lineman Mike McGlinchey.
The problem for Texas recruiting at the offensive tackle position is how good they could be at the top. Texas is really pushing to land the likes of five-star All Saints Episcopal offensive tackle Tommy Brockermeyer and five-star Duncanville product Savion Byrd.
But if Texas is able to take on more depth in the trenches in the 2021 recruiting class, then landing Fatheree would be gigantic. Texas A&M does seem to be getting the early edge to land his commitment. The two 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions that are in as of Feb. 24 went for the Aggies.
The last three visits that Fatheree has on his recruiting timeline came with head coach Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies. Texas A&M isn’t making as much headway with the likes of Byrd and Brockermeyer at the moment, so they are likely prioritizing Fatheree more so than the Longhorns.
