Texas Football: Charles Omenihu has insane offseason workout
A former defensive end of the Texas football program, Charles Omenihu of the Houston Texans, had a wild workout video posted on Twitter on Feb. 24.
A former All-Big 12 defensive end out of the Texas football program, and a former Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year Charles Omenihu, had a very insane offseason workout video that was exposed to the world early this week. Omenihu is trying to make waves in the early stages of his NFL career with the Houston Texans, and he surely caught a lot of people’s attention with this workout video.
The Texas Longhorns football program surely didn’t see Omenihu do workouts like this during his playing days on the Forty Acres. When he was a senior with Texas, Omenihu was second in the Big 12 in sacks (9.5) and tackles for loss (18.0). He also ranked 10th in the Big 12 in forced fumbles during the 2017 season (2.0).
During his rookie season with the Texans, Omenihu posted three sacks, eight solo tackles, five quarterback hits, two pass deflections, and two forced fumbles. He was able to play in 14 games and made quite the impact when he was actually out on the field.
Omenihu participated in around 41 percent of the Texans defensive snaps last season and 12 percent on special teams. So his production was pretty good considering the lack of snaps he saw during his rookie campaign.
The former standout Texas defensive end Omenihu was a fifth round pick (161st overall) of the Texans in the 2019 NFL Draft. He was actually the first former Longhorn picked in last year’s draft. Former Texas starting cornerback Kris Boyd was the only other Longhorn that was picked in the 2019 NFL Draft (seventh round).
The 6-foot-5 and 280 pound Omenihu really has the chance to change his body and make a bigger impact with the Texans in his second season in the NFL. He appears to be working very hard to make that type of progress during his first full NFL offseason.
Pushing a GMC Sierra could be a good way to get Omenihu to the next level in 2020. This video he had on Twitter now has slightly over 73K views so it’s getting a good amount of attention from football fans.
