The building NCAA Tournament resume for the Texas basketball program could lead to a positive result on Selection Sunday.

A big win over the No. 20 ranked West Virginia Mountaineers on Feb. 25 gave the Texas basketball program a bit of hope that they can salvage what looked to be a lost 2019-20 regular season just 10 days ago. Head coach Shaka Smart is also finding a path to cooling down his seat that was heating up very fast in that same span of time.

Texas moved their record to an improving 17-11 (7-8 Big 12) on the season so far after that double-digit win at home at the Frank Erwin Center on Tuesday night over West Virginia. Head coach Bob Huggins saw his Mountaineers squad get upended after they dominated Texas at WVU Coliseum earlier this season. In the first meeting between these two teams this year, Texas was handed its worst loss in Big 12 play in the Smart-era.

However, Texas really appears to be turning a corner of late. They sit on a three-game winning streak after beating West Virginia. The other two wins came over the Kansas State Wildcats and TCU Horned Frogs in dominating fashion. The improved play of the backcourt is helping the entire Texas team come alive at the perfect time.

With this well-timed turnaround for Texas on the hardwood of late, they’re actually clinging to a good amount of hopes that they’ll get a big on Selection Sunday to get into the NCAA Tournament. Texas does need to take care of business against the Oklahoma schools in two of the last three outings of the regular season. The other of the three comes against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Here’s a look into the five arguments for why the Texas Longhorns basketball program should make the NCAA Tournament this year.
