Texas Football: Colin Cowherd likens Vince Young to Tim Tebow

The comparison between former Texas football legendary quarterback Vince Young and Florida’s Tim Tebow is pretty far off base.

Maybe the best quarterback in the history of the Texas football program is the 2006 National Champion Vince Young. He was able to take down quarterback Matt Leinart, running back Reggie Bush, and the USC Trojans in the 2006 Rose Bowl. That game was an instant classic.

However, not all voices in the football media realm seem to share the same view of a quarterback like Young from his college and NFL days.

In a recent segment on his show “The Herd”, Colin Cowherd likened the former superstar signal caller of the Texas Longhorns football program to one of the Florida Gators from the late 2000’s Tim Tebow.

While it is true that Tebow and Young were both electrifying dual-threat quarterbacks that won national titles at Florida and Texas respectively, there’s ample differences in their game too. Tebow flamed out of the NFL for much different reasons than Young. It seemed like the mental aspect and the situation that Young ended up in with the Tennessee Titans caused a lot of his demise in the NFL.

Meanwhile, the Denver Broncos just found a better quarterback than Tebow and that was pretty much the end of his brief run at the position in the NFL.

There is a large problem with this comparison for Cowherd between Young and Tebow. His issue was that Tebow’s throwing motion reminded him of VY, but that just shouldn’t be the case. Young did have a bit of a flick, but Tebow had a very long and sometimes inaccurate throwing motion that had his arm come over the top.

This seems to be the nature of hot take that Cowherd can come up with during the long college football and NFL offseason, though. It does spark the debate about what went wrong with VY’s NFL career, but comparing his throwing motion to that of Tebow’s isn’t the way you should look to find answers.

Tebow ended his NFL career after a brief stint out of Training Camp with the New England Patriots. Meanwhile Young finished out his career in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles after the 2011 season.
