Texas Football: 3 potential gem Longhorn finds in the 2020 NFL Draft
Possibly the player that will fall the lowest in the 2020 NFL Draft out of the Texas football program that was invited to the NFL Combine is the former senior starting defensive end Malcolm Roach. He has posted good numbers at the NFL Combine thus far, including 20 reps on the benchpress and a 40-yard dash time of 4.85-seconds.
The raw physical tools and versatility that Roach brings to the table will be one of his calling cards in the draft. There is going to be some team that buys into the 6-foot-3 and 290 pound frame of Roach that could fit well at either a smaller defensive end spot in the NFL or as an edge rusher/outside linebacker.
Roach has enough speed and quickness to get off the line quick and play as an outside linebacker. But he’s also still got a good enough motor and more than enough strength to play as a smaller defensive end. And he stayed mostly healthy throughout his time on the Forty Acres, barring one setback in 2018.
During his senior campaign, Roach racked up 40 total tackles, nine tackles for loss, three sacks, and one pass deflection. Roach really does have a nose for blowing up plays in the backfield. If he can get the right launch point off the line of scrimmage, he can also be a torrent pass rusher that can be a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks.
