Texas Football: 5 best former Longhorns in the 2020 NFL Draft
1. Devin Duvernay, Wide Receiver
This wide receiver class for the 2020 NFL Draft is absolutely loaded at the top. But former Texas football 5-foot-11 and 200 pound wideout Devin Duvernay is already starting to work his way through this deep class at the position and skyrocket up draft boards. He had a stout NFL Combine and definitely saw his stock rise at the Senior Bowl.
Keep it up with a good outing at the Texas Pro Day, and Duvernay could officially work his way into the realm of a projected late second or third round draft pick. He and Johnson could very likely be the two highest selected former Longhorns in this 2020 NFL Draft class.
However, there are going to be other speedy wide receivers in this draft class that could go much higher than Duvernay. Former Alabama Crimson Tide speedster Henry Ruggs ran the fastest 40-yard dash time at the combine (4.27 seconds), which could push him to the realm of a first round pick.
TCU’s Jalen Reagor, Arizona State’s Brandon Aiyuk, Penn State’s K.J. Hamler, Oklahoma’s CeeDee Lamb, and LSU’s Justin Jefferson are all speedsters that could fall off the board before Duvernay.
But the blazing 4.39-40 yard dash time that Duvernay posted at the combine along with catching every single piece in the wide receiver drills should keep his floor pretty high. And the fact that he fits so well with modern NFL offense that really emphasize stretching the field and flat out speed in the passing game makes for likely good fortunes for Duvernay in the 2020 NFL Draft.
