Texas Football: Devin Duvernay runs top 10 40-time at NFL Combine
This 2020 NFL Draft class is very deep in certain spots, and Texas football WR Devin Duvernay’s stock rise of late proves how solid this group really is.
With the 2020 NFL Draft Combine pretty much all but wrapped up for the week, the Texas football program can officially look back at the results from their four former players competing in the festivities within the last seven days. Texas had two wide receivers, one defensive end, and one safety testing in this year at the NFL Combine.
And sitting among the most prominent measurements/drills at the NFL Combine that involved former members of the Texas Longhorns football program was the 40-yard dash. The best former Longhorn to run the 40-yard dash in Indianapolis last week is the 5-foot-11 and 200 pound star wide receiver Devin Duvernay.
The 40-yard dash time was solid as originally anticipated for Duvernay in the NFL Combine. He timed in at a very good speed of 4.39 seconds in his 40-yard dash. Duvernay was one of less than a dozen players competing in the combine that ran a time sub-4.40 seconds. Three others ran the same time as him in this same event.
That list of the other players in this draft class included the former Wisconsin Badgers running back Jonathan Taylor, Memphis Tigers wide receiver Antonio Gibson, and Clemson Tigers linebacker Isaiah Simmons. That left only six others that ran a faster time than Duvernay.
That list of six included Alabama’s Henry Ruggs (4.27), Utah’s Jarvelin Guidry (4.29), Southern Miss’ Quez Watkins (4.35), Louisiana Tech’s L’Jarius Sneed (4.37), Baylor’s Denzel Mims (4.38), and Tulane’s Darnell Mooney (4.38).
The track level speed that Duvernay is about to bring to the next level was put on full display in the combine. He was maybe the most impressive of the four former Longhorns competing in the combine.
Duvernay is one of two Texas Ex wideouts in the midst of their scouting process ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft. The other is the wide receiver that measured in as the tallest at his position in this draft class, the towering 6-foot-5 and 220 pound Collin Johnson. He put up 17 reps on the benchpress and didn’t time in for anything else yet.
The other two former Longhorns competing in the combine were safety Brandon Jones and defensive end Malcolm Roach. Roach had a 40-yard dash time as a pretty impressive 4.84 seconds and 20 reps on the benchpress. Jones opted out of the drills portion of the testing at the combine since he didn’t want to risk anything after his labrum surgery he went through earlier in the offseason.
Duvernay saw his stock rise with his solid performance in the NFL Combine. Drafttek now ranks Duvernay as the No. 106 prospect overall in the 2020 NFL Draft class and the No. 14 wide receiver. That is one spot behind Johnson in those same rankings.
