Maybe the most prioritized target for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class, QB Quinn Ewers, could take a patient approach to his pledge decision.

Maybe the biggest target that the 2022 Texas football recruiting class could be holding at the moment is the potential five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers. This 6-foot-3 and 195 pound rising junior Southlake, TX, native signal caller has all the makings of an elite talent at the position.

There’s a sole 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction in for Ewers as of March 2, and it goes in favor of the Texas Longhorns football program. Although, the early indications are that Ewers will really take his time to make this commitment decision. He has a very long time until even the Early Signing Period arrives in December 2021 to start rounding out the 2022 recruiting cycle.

However, there will always be the early blue blood programs that can get in on a rising elite quarterback talent like Ewers and win over his interests for good. That’s likely what head coach Tom Herman and recently hired offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich are trying to do with Ewers right now.

In the last 30 days, Ewers received some key scholarship offers worth watching from here on out. Head coach Gary Patterson and the TCU Horned Frogs offered Ewers on March 1. And head coach Lincoln Riley and the rival Oklahoma Sooners offered him on Feb. 1.

Texas was well ahead of the game for Ewers, as they offered him back in September 2019. Since then, the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Baylor Bears are Big 12 programs that have also offered Ewers.

The other highlights of his ever-growing offer sheet includes the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Florida Gators, Michigan Wolverines, Michigan State Spartans, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Texas A&M Aggies. The offers should only continue to pour in for Ewers if he’s willing to really have a lot of patience before making his commitment decision.

Ewers currently holds 21 schools on his offer sheet.

He has reportedly (247Sports) taken visits to other schools outside of Texas since the start of the 2019 high school football season. Ewers visited head coach Nick Saban and Alabama back in January. He hasn’t visited the Forty Acres since last summer. He seems to be trying to make his way back to Austin soon, though. He grew up a fan of the burnt orange, so Herman and Yurcich should be able to stay in the running through the very end to land Ewers.

But Ewers does seem to be all over the place right now. And that is fine for a rising junior in high school that is still trying to figure out what his top schools will be. Oklahoma and Auburn still seem to be high in Ewers’ eyes.

The goal for Texas now needs to be staying on constant contact with Ewers and get him to campus at least twice before the end of the calendar year. Racking up as many great visits as possible is the way to go.

Obviously a good bout in spring camp and success on the field this fall will make a huge impact on Ewers this year too.

There’s no recruiting ranking in yet for Ewers. He should debut as a five-star prospect as long as he performs well in various recruiting combines, showcases, and 7-on-7’s this offseason.
