A nice addition to the 2021 Texas football recruiting class in the secondary could be three-star LBJ safety and Austin native Andrew Mukuba.

Piecing together the 2021 Texas football recruiting class is a process that is already well underway for head coach Tom Herman and his newly configured coaching staff. Texas turned over much of their coaching staff after they finished up with a rather disappointing seven win regular season, and we’ll see if the fruits of Herman’s labor can pay immediate dividends on the recruiting trail for the 2021 class.

So far this offseason, the Texas Longhorns football program holds a top 10 spot in the national class rankings with the six commitments they’ve landed so far during the 2021 recruiting cycle. But Herman and Co. definitely need to look to continue building heading into what promises to be a pivotal spring camp within the next month or two.

Herman and recently hired defensive coordinator Chris Ash did do their best to get a quick jump on recruiting defensive backs for their 2021 class. Texas recently sent out a scholarship offer to a rising three-star safety that could start gaining a lot more national attention as the offseason chugs along.

That three-star safety that the Longhorns offered on Feb. 29 is LBJ High School product and Austin, TX, native Andrew Mukuba. Texas became the fourth program just over the weekend alone to send Mukuba a scholarship offer. The Oklahoma Sooners became the fifth heading out of the weekend, when they offered him on March 1. Head coach Lincoln Riley and the Sooners are the most recent school to offer Mukuba as of March 2.

However, the other three programs to offer Mukuba last weekend included the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Duke Blue Devils, and Washington State Cougars (all three coming on Feb. 28). This brings the number of schools on Mukuba’s growing offer sheet to one shy of two-dozen.

The 247Sports Composite Ranking for Mukuba holds him out as the nation’s No. 356 2021 high school prospect and the No. 18 safety. He also ranks just outside the top 50 prospects out of the state of Texas. This 5-foot-11 and 181 pound defensive back out of the Longhorns’ backyard is rated a bit higher in the 247Sports sole recruiting ranking than the composite. He’s a four-star prospect and ranked inside the top 200 high school prospects in the nation from 247Sports alone.

Moreover, the 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions favors Mukuba to land with Oklahoma with two of three experts leaning toward the Sooners. The other expert prediction is currently in as cloudy or undecided. The Arkansas Razorbacks were previously a split decision with Oklahoma from 247Sports.

Other significant programs to send Mukuba an offer thus far includes the Alabama Crimson Tide, TCU Horned Frogs, Auburn Tigers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Tennessee Volunteers. But the Longhorns could make a big run at him heading into spring ball.
