Looking to finish the 2019-20 regular season on a high note, the Texas basketball program takes on the 16-14 Oklahoma State Cowboys on March 7.

The last game remaining on the regular season schedule for the Texas basketball program comes on March 7 at home at the Frank Erwin Center against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Texas does get a very winnable game to close out the regular season, ahead of the Big 12 and NCAA Tournament. Head coach Shaka Smart needs a win to ensure that his team will make it through Selection Sunday with positive news.

Texas missing out on the NCAA Tournament yet again might be too much for Smart to keep his job beyond the 2019-20 season. But the good news is that his team played well enough over the course of the last five games to likely make it into the Big Dance regardless of how their regular season finale against the Pokes turns out.

Entering this regular season finale against Oklahoma State, Texas carries a record of 18-11 (9-8 Big 12). They are sitting on a five-game winning streak after their recent thrilling upset on a last-second buzzer beater from junior guard Matt Coleman against the rival Oklahoma Sooners.

If Texas takes care of business this afternoon, then they could actually be the three seed in the Big 12 Tournament. Texas Tech would be the other team that could claim the three seed in the conference tournament. But Texas gets to face easier opposition in their last regular season game since Texas Tech takes on the No. 1 ranked Kansas Jayhawks this weekend.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma State played much better down the stretch in Big 12 play. But they still remain well outside the NCAA Tournament picture and should be one of the bottom two seeds in the Big 12 Tournament.

Here’s a look into three reasons why the Texas Longhorns basketball program could run the Oklahoma State Cowboys in their regular season finale on March 7.
