A strong target in sight for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class this offseason could be three-star Magnolia offensive tackle Matthew Wykoff.

A very talented group of offensive line prospects in-state for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class will starting taking to the forefront this offseason. Texas has key offensive line targets that could add to the amount of five-star commitments in their 2021 recruiting class, including Duncanville’s Savion Byrd and All Saints Episcopal’s Tommy Brockermeyer. But Texas needs to continue to focus on other offensive linemen beyond the likes of elite talent like Brockermeyer and Byrd.

The Texas Longhorns football program needs to not put all their eggs in one or two baskets in the trenches for this recruiting cycle. One avenue that they could look is a three-star in-state offensive tackle prospect that could be a nice depth add, and just named them among his top seven finalist schools.

That aforementioned three-star offensive linemen is the Magnolia High School 6-foot-5 and 305 pound offensive tackle Matthew Wykoff. The Magnolia, TX, native could bring yet another promising offensive tackle prospect to the Forty Acres to keep the pipeline strong cycle after cycle.

At this point, Wykoff nearly has more than 30 schools on his ever-growing offer sheet. He cut a lot of schools with this latest finalist list. The top seven finalist schools included the Arizona State Sun Devils, USC Trojans, Auburn Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Penn State Nittany Lions. Of course the Longhorns were also on that list.

Wykoff dropped his finalist list of schools on his Twitter timeline on March 5. He ranks as the nation’s No. 374 2021 high school prospect and the No. 33 offensive tackle. Wykoff also slots just outside the top 50 prospects out of the state of Texas.

One of the more interesting schools that he cut from this finalist list was the Baylor Bears. He was recently on campus in Waco on their Junior Day. But he cut Baylor this month, despite that being one of his more recent visits. Other significant school cuts that offered Wykoff includes the Arkansas Razorbacks, Mizzou Tigers, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Ole Miss Rebels, SMU Mustangs, Tennessee Volunteers, and the TCU Horned Frogs.

There’s no commitment decision in sight yet for Wykoff. But usually narrowing down a finalist list of schools to less than 10 is a good indication that he’s starting to find where he fits best. Maybe he could announce by the start of the 2020 college football season.
