As a bigger position of need for the Texas football program in the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason, nabbing a running back makes sense.

Up next for the Hook’em Headlines NCAA Transfer Portal big board for the Texas football program in the midst of the 2020 offseason is the running back position. This is more a position of need that Texas can add to through the transfer portal than quarterback is. Running back is one that Texas is pretty young at, but has a ton of raw talent.

The recruiting rankings of the three or four top running backs on the roster for Texas at the moment are all four and five-star prospects. Even down to the 2020 signing class, Texas landed the top ranked running back in the nation with five-star Salpointe Catholic product Bijan Robinson.

However, Texas doesn’t have much in the way of proven commodities in the running back room beyond rising junior Keaontay Ingram. The move of to-be sophomore Roschon Johnson from running back back to quarterback could hurt the depth and proven talent at the position.

It was not just but two years ago that head coach Tom Herman turned to the transfer portal to find a solution at the running back position, with the former Cal Golden Bear Tre Watson. Texas got a successful graduate transfer stint out of Watson. But how long will it be until Texas tries out the transfer portal to add to their ground game again?

There’s still a lot of underrated running backs yet that could add some certainty beyond the likes of Ingram, redshirt freshman Derrian Brown, senior Daniel Young, etc.

Here’s a look into the big board for the Texas Longhorns football program out of the NCAA Transfer Portal during the 2020 offseason.
