Texas Football: 3 NCAA Transfer Portal Longhorns RB targets
Turning to the in-state and Big 12 rival Texas Tech Red Raiders to find answers at the running back position could be a difficult move for fans and players of the Texas football program. But when it serves value and the men in burnt orange prove that they can maximize another skill position player that the Red Raiders couldn’t, it has to feel good.
And the Longhorns should be able to maximize what to-be junior running back Ta’Zhawn Henry brings to the table. Henry just didn’t get a big enough workload over the course of the last two seasons. A lot of his lack of production last year came from the lack of usage from then first-year head coach Matt Wells down the stretch.
One name that would fit a similar profile to that of Henry as a potential transfer prospect for the Longhorns is former Texas A&M Aggies running back Jacob Kibodi. But Henry remains uncommitted out of the portal and Kibodi wound up taking his talents to FCS Incarnate Word ahead of the Early Signing Period last year.
Henry managed to fall just short of 1,000 total yards from scrimmage with the Texas Tech offense over the last two years combined. Most of his production came from the ground game, where he averaged slightly over four yards per carry. But he also had nearly 300 receiving yards on 44 catches. He’s a pretty versatile weapon.
