A top priority of the 2021 Texas football recruiting class, 5-Star Lakeview Centennial RB Camar Wheaton, is visiting campus today.

Facing a key month of visiting targets from the 2021 and 2022 Texas football recruiting classes, head coach Tom Herman has plenty of prospects to impress entering spring camp. Texas hosted one very important target of their 2021 recruiting class who is being zoned in on by a number of other Big 12 programs of late.

That elite prospect that the Texas Longhorns football program hosted on campus for a visit is five-star Lakeview Centennial running back Camar Wheaton. The nation’s No. 16 ranked 2021 high school prospect and the top ranked running back for this cycle had his first visit to the Forty Acres in quite a while on March 10.

The report that the Longhorns were hosting Wheaton on Tuesday on the Forty Acres for a visit came from multiple sources reportedly on Burnt Orange Nation.

This was apparently the second visit to a Big 12 program in the last two days for Wheaton. He was reportedly (The Football Braniacs) on campus in Norman with head coach Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma Sooners on March 9.

Wheaton is definitely getting his visits in before most college football programs kick spring camp across the country into high gear. Since the offers getting sent his way started to slow of late, it appears that his decision could be narrowing pretty soon.

Although, Wheaton does still have more than two dozen schools on his lengthy offer sheet. The highlights of his offer sheet outside of Texas and Oklahoma includes the Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU Tigers, SMU Mustangs, Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, Michigan Wolverines, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies, and USC Trojans.

The No. 2 ranked 2021 high school prospect out of the state of Texas last had an unofficial visit with head coach Ed Orgeron and the defending National Champions LSU back on Feb. 1. That unofficial visit with LSU was his last before this round early in the week from Texas and Oklahoma.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions for Wheaton have one of two experts going with the Sooners. The other expert prediction in went undecided or cloudy. But the Rivals FutureCast actually gives Texas and Alabama a clean split to land the commitment of Wheaton.

This 5-foot-11 and 190 pound Garland, TX, native could be the next big win for Herman and the Longhorns recruiting out of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Texas recruited DFW well over the course of the last two recruiting cycles. Getting Wheaton to campus this week should help Texas gain favor in his eyes over the rival Sooners.
