Nickelback

Starter: Chris Adimora*, Sophomore

There’s a host of injuries that the Texas football program will be dealing with heading into spring camp. But the most significant of the bunch goes to rising junior nickelback B.J. Foster, who should be back by the end of summer workouts. With that in mind, Texas needs to find someone new at the nickelback position to take the first team practice reps.

A good candidate to step up and take that position is the rising sophomore defensive back and former four-star safety recruit Chris Adimora. Last season, Adimora got some reps at both safety and nickelback. He racked up 10 total tackles and two pass deflections (including an impressive one late in the win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys) in the process.

Backup: Anthony Cook, Junior

An interesting position switch that Texas made heading into spring camp is the move from cornerback to nickelback for rising junior Anthony Cook. The former four-star cornerback recruit really never found at home at his original position when Orlando was directing the defense.

Last season, Cook racked up 24 total tackles, one tackle for loss, and two pass deflections. But the cornerback position didn’t help Cook to develop much over the course of his first two seasons on the Forty Acres. Maybe his impressive agility and strength will help Cook standout as a nickelback, in a role similar to what P.J. Locke III played in during his time in Austin.
