WILL

Starter: DeMarvion Overshown, Redshirt Sophomore

During his true freshman campaign, injuries ravaged the run that former four-star safety recruit DeMarvion Overshown could’ve had right away. Overshown only got to play in one game during his freshman season, back in 2018. But he started to show what he can truly do for this Texas football defense last season.

During his sophomore season, Overshown racked up 18 total tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, one interception, three pass deflections, and one forced fumble. Overshow was playing at safety last season, and he’ll make the transition to use his physical nature and insane strength and athleticism to make an impact for this linebacking corps.

Backup: David Gbenda, Redshirt Freshman/Reese Leitao, Redshirt Sophomore

Just like the Longhorns have a plethora of at a lot of positions on the defensive side of the ball this year, the WILL linebacker spot could have a number of different backups. The good news for Ash and the Longhorns is that the defense will get an easier start out of the gates this coming season. He can figure out what would be best to align for his WILL linebacker pecking order.

The first option here could be the former converted running back and three-star recruit David Gbenda. Herman gave Gbenda some practice reps at running back last offseason when the injury situation got dire in the backfield. He’ll move back to linebacker permanently. But one other player that is crosstraining is former tight end Reese Leitao.
