Cornerback Pt. 2

Starter: Jalen Green, Junior

The corners could be the clear top two by the end of the 2020 season for the Texas football program are Jamison and junior Jalen Green. As a one-on-one cornerback in pass coverage, Green can standout. His gifted physical tools and good ball skills allow him to be left on an island and still hold his own.

The skill set and physical tools of Green should be a very solid fit with the aggressive schemes that Ash likes to play that puts a lot of pressure on his cornerbacks. The better of Ash defenses usually have lengthy and physical cornerbacks that can hang on an island, even against the more difficult of receiving corps in college football.

Last season, Green racked up 30 total tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, and five pass deflections.

Backup: Kenyatta Watson II, Redshirt Freshman

The next wave of starting cornerbacks for Texas should include the former four-star Georgia native recruit Kenyatta Watson II and incoming freshman four-star 2020 signee Kitan Crawford. Texas should get as many reps as they can to players like Watson II and Crawford when possible this fall.

Last season, Watson II racked up three total tackles and no pass deflections in just a handful of appearances. But he does have a lot of raw talent that he brings to the table, as he was one of the top 20 rated cornerbacks in the nation during the 2019 recruiting cycle.
