Texas Football: 3 NCAA Transfer Portal Longhorns WR targets
Next up on the 2020 Texas football NCAA Transfer Portal Big Board is the wide receiver position. What’s needed for this group?
This NCAA Transfer Portal Big Board series for the Texas football program in the midst of the 2020 offseason continues with another potential position of need. Wide receiver is one where Texas does have a lot of talent and depth, but there’s not a whole lot in the way of proven commodities this year.
Unless Texas gets the likes of junior Brennan Eagles, sophomore Jake Smith, and/or sophomore Joshua Moore to step up in a big way out of the gates, they could be in trouble at the outset. Texas doesn’t have an immediate answer to turn to, but there’s usually a plethora of talent at wide receiver in the transfer portal.
Texas had no trouble turning to the transfer portal to fill various depth needs before and it can happen again. There needs to be a replacement of production for departed wide receivers like the senior standout combination of Collin Johnson and Devin Duvernay. Texas also loses former senior speedster John Burt who just ran out of eligibility.
At one point, Texas was considering the former Michigan Wolverines graduate transfer wide receiver Tarik Black, but nothing has come of that yet. Black is one of a number of former four and five-star recruits at wide receiver in the transfer portal at the moment.
That is about it for legit Texas consideration to add a wide receiver transfer. But that still means that head coach Tom Herman can still be considering this an option to add depth this offseason.
Here’s a look into the transfer portal big board for the Texas Longhorns football program during the 2020 offseason at the wide receiver position.
