As I mentioned beforehand, the Texas football program reportedly reached out to Black at one point earlier in the offseason. Black ranked as a four or five-star recruit hailing from Cheshire, CT, depending on the media service you look at. But he was the top overall prospect out of the state of Connecticut and a top 15 ranked wide receiver.

Last season, Black racked up 25 catches for 323 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Even though that was his best season in Ann Arbor, Black needed to find a better landing spot to try and improve his NFL Draft stock before the end of his college career. Things just never clicked under head coach Jim Harbaugh in the last three years.

The true freshman campaign of Black showed a lot of promise, since he only got to play in three games. He racked up just shy of 150 receiving yards and one touchdown back in 2017. This seems like the right decision for Black to transfer given how many struggles he had at Michigan, despite the recent change in offensive coordinator and philosophy.

What the Longhorns could be getting out of Black is one of the most talented wide receivers in the transfer portal right now. He’s also the only wide receiver that has any report of traction with the Longhorns. Once again, that shows that the tangible interest between the two parties could lead to something down the road this offseason.
