2. Matt Coleman, Guard

More pressure falls on the shoulders of the guard combination of sophomore Courtney Ramey and junior Matt Coleman than any other player on this Texas basketball roster. Ramey didn’t have the season that a lot of people expected him to during his sophomore campaign.

That left a lot of pressure on Coleman individually to push this team on both ends of the floor since Ramey wasn’t performing up to par. In 30 games played this season, Coleman averaged 12.7 points per game, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.4 assists, while shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 39.5 percent from beyond the arc. He also posted career bests in offensive and defensive rating.

Ramey’s offensive showings came and went, but at least he was a bit more consistent than he was given credit for on defense.

Although the play of Coleman tapered off a bit down the stretch, he consistently hit big shots. If not for that game-winner he hit in the latter edition of the Red River Showdown on the hardwood to beat the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman by one point, the Longhorns might not have even sat on the bubble heading into the Big 12 Tournament and Selection Sunday.

That buzzer beater to beat Oklahoma on the road might be the most memorable moment of the 2019-20 Texas men’s basketball season. Outside of shooting guard Andrew Jones showing up in a big way off the bench this year after beating his battle with Leukemia, Coleman should take the cake for having the most memorable moment of the season.
