Texas Football: 3 NCAA Transfer Portal OG Longhorns targets
Next up in the 2020 NCAA Transfer Portal Big Board for the Texas football program comes more of a younger group in the trenches, at offensive guard.
In the next edition of the 2020 NCAA Transfer Portal Big Board for the Texas football program in the midst of the novel coronavirus precautions and hiatuses across the sports world, we focus on the offensive guard position. Texas has turned to the transfer portal to get help along the offensive line in each of the last two offseason.
Two years ago, head coach Tom Herman and offensive line coach Herb Hand turned to the transfer portal to bring in former Rice Owls offensive tackle Calvin Anderson. That was a successful graduate transfer haul for Texas. Both Anderson and fellow 2018 graduate transfer and former Cal Golden Bears running back Tre Watson helped Texas out a lot during that solid season that resulted in a Sugar Bowl win over the Georgia Bulldogs.
Last offseason, Texas landed former Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets All-ACC offensive guard Parker Braun to add depth in the trenches. Braun didn’t help as much as landing Anderson two years ago did, but adding depth along the line never seems like a bad move. If nothing else, Braun helped to sure up the offensive line when injuries started to take hold on both sides of the ball.
Offensive guard might be the youngest and most inexperienced position for Texas on this side of the ball. Texas could be looking to start the likes of redshirt freshman former four-star recruit Tyler Johnson along with rising sophomore Junior Angilau this coming season.
Here’s a look into the 2020 NCAA Transfer Portal Big Board for the Texas Longhorns football program with the names left on the open market at the offensive guard position.
