A below standard season by the usual standards of the Texas football program throughout its history in 2019 didn’t fit with the 10 best of all-time.

A down season for the Texas football program during the 2019 campaign can spark the debate of where it fits among the best teams in its history. But head coach Tom Herman didn’t have the worst result for Texas football fans in recent memory, finishing up with a record of 8-5 (5-4 Big 12) in the 2019 season.

Over the course of the entire 118 year history of the Texas football program, there are four claimed national titles and five unclaimed national titles that were named by at least one organization. The latest national title that Texas won came to cap the 2005-06 college football season. Texas beat the USC Trojans in the 2006 Rose Bowl to win that national title.

Moreover, Texas has 32 conference titles in the history of the program. Those conference titles encompass their time in the Big 12, Southwest Conference, and the TIAA. Other major accolades include 30 bowl wins, 60 consensus All-Americans, and two Heisman Trophy winners. All in all, Texas has a program record of 916-375-33 since its founding in 1893.

Texas is one of the true blue blood college football programs nowadays. Even with the slipping of the team throughout a good portion of the 2010’s, they ended on somewhat of a high note. Texas knocked off two top-12 ranked teams in back-to-back years to cap off the latest decade. They beat the Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl to cap the 2018 season, and the Utah Utes in the Alamo Bowl to cap last season.

Hopefully Herman can get this program back to the level of national prominence that they were once at throughout much of the 1900’s and the 2000’s. Here’s a look into the 10 best teams in the 118 year history of the Texas Longhorns football program.
